How much do Amazon Sponsored Products ads cost?

Amazon Sponsored Products cost only when someone clicks: from $0.02 per click and $1 a day in the US. How bids, budgets and Amazon's charges really work.
Amazon Sponsored Products cost nothing to show: you pay only when someone clicks your ad. Each click costs what an auction decides, never more than the maximum bid you set. In the US the minimums are $0.02 per click and $1 a day, and Amazon notes that many advertisers start with about $30 a day.

The costs at a glance
| Sponsored Products (US) | |
|---|---|
| You pay for | Clicks only, never impressions |
| Bid per click | $0.02 to $1,000 |
| Daily budget | From $1 |
| A busy day | Up to 2 times the daily budget, never more over the month |
| Invalid clicks | Removed, not charged |
What decides the price of a click
- Your bid is a maximum. Amazon runs an auction for every ad slot. Relevance counts too: a lower bid on a more relevant ad can win. You may pay more than the next bid, but never more than your maximum.
- The suggested bid comes from winning bids on similar ads over the past 7 days. Amazon's example: a suggested $0.70, within a range of $0.40 to $1.40.
- Your strategy can move it. With "dynamic bids – up and down", Amazon can raise a $1 bid to $2 when a sale looks likely. The three strategies.
- Adjustments add to it. +50% for top of search turns $1 into $1.50; add a +60% audience boost and it is $2.40.
- Shopping events cost more. Clicks are usually pricier in the weeks before and during Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
How the daily budget works
- It is an average over the month. On a busy day Amazon can spend up to twice the daily budget (you can lower that to +25% in the campaign settings), but the month never goes above budget × days: $10 a day is $300 at most in a 30-day month.
- When it runs out, the ads stop until midnight. Budgets are spent as clicks come, not spread over the day.
- Lowering it mid-month caps the rest of the month at the new amount. Amazon's example: $800 spent by the 20th, budget cut to $10, so $900 at most that month.

What is a "Sponsored Products charge"?
It is Amazon billing your ad clicks. Amazon charges your payment method each time your clicks add up to your credit limit, and at least once a month (on the second day of the next month). The limit rises after each successful payment: $50, then $150, $200, $350 and $500, according to Amazon's billing page (whose own example for a brand-new account starts lower, at $1 then $10).
- How you pay: a card for everyone; sellers can also pay from their seller account funds, vendors by deduction from their Amazon payments, and anyone by monthly invoice (due in 30 days).
- Several charges on the same day are normal: each invoice closes as soon as it reaches the limit, and a new one opens.
- Your invoice can differ from the campaign manager: Amazon removes invalid clicks for up to 72 hours, and the invoice adds taxes and credits.
- A failed payment pauses every campaign until the payment method is fixed.
Frequently asked questions
Do Amazon ads for KDP books cost the same?
Yes. Authors pay per click with the same minimums, by card or monthly invoice. Book ads are reviewed before they run, which can take up to 3 business days.
Does Amazon give free credit for a first campaign?
Sometimes. Under its New Seller Incentives, Amazon matches what a new seller spends in the 30 days after creating a first Sponsored Products campaign, as a credit. Amounts and terms vary by marketplace.
